Entering Rolling Coast (Eared's journey #2)

We’ve been journeying with mouse merchant, Eared Grant, as he makes his way to Rolling Coast, with you voting on what he chooses to do - read the full tory so far here.

To draw more attention to his story, I thought I’d bring it to a new topic from time to time to make it easier to find, read, and vote on.

We last left Eared when he was confronted by a member of Quillbane’s retinue, who was demanding tribute.

Community votes dictated that he would try to charm the mouse, so he doesn’t need to offer any tribute. Let’s see how that goes…


Eared relaxes his grip on his sling and puts on his best salesman smile - the one that’s always been a winner when haggling with difficult buyers.

“Oh, there’s no need for violence - I’m sure we can work something out here…”

The mouse eyes Eared suspiciously.

At this point, I think an opposed WIL save is in order. Eared has a WIL score of 9, and the other mouse uses the mouse stat block from the Mausritter core rulebook, making his WIL a 9 as well. I’ll roll for them both and let’s see what happens…

The mouse in front of Eared slowly relaxes the grip on the dangerous looking quill he’s holding, allowing Eared to breathe a sigh of relief - the winning smile does it again.

“You’re right - how about we call it quits for now, and I allow you to pass with a warning. My comrades won’t be so lenient, so watch out and good luck in the park - Rolling Coast can be dangerous.”

“Thank you - I appreciate your kindness. When I have my store setup again, I’ll be sure to give you a well-deserved discount on everything!”

The other mouse nods and turns away, leaving Eared and Kester to walk into the park undisturbed.

Now - it would probably make the most sense to head to Snackburg, the local friendly settlement that he had heard much about, but he knows all of his items were stolen by the Packratz and their hideout is just near the entrance, so maybe he should attempt to look for it, but is he strong enough to do so yet?

He had heard a rumour about a powerful alchemaus, brewing potions in the medic van - that may help him in his quest to recover what was stolen and set up a new life for himself. It could be interesting, but it’s certainly a more dangerous option.

If none of that feels right, maybe he should just wander the park and see what he encounters along the way. It’s random, but maybe that’s for the best.
